Lenis is a start-up company with a view to commercialization of research results of the Biotechnical Faculty of Ljubljana, which has developed a method of obtaining secretions of sterile larvae. The research group has used a sterile larvae for treatment on an experimental group of patients with excellent results (instead of live larvae), which has achieved an accelerated wound healing, tissue regeneration and anti-inflammatory action. The Company Lenis has intention on the basis of these results to develop a gel coating for the treatment of chronic wounds.
Slovenian Technology Agency (TIA) as one of the 15's of European technological innovation agencies involved in the project Valor, which aims to create an effective pan-European model of promoting the transfer of research results to the market. In this project is TIA, in cooperation with the Slovenian Ministry of the Economy in July 2008 announced a public tender for the promotion of the process of commercialization of knowledge, whose aim was to accelerate the transfer of knowledge and research results from research groups in the market and promote the establishment of companies, which will be an element of successful commercialization of knowledge and will employ a highly skilled workforce.
The projects of Lenis was selected at national level. They competed with 35-s projects of other European countries to qualify as Valor. Lenis has convinced a group of international assessors that it succeed with the project development and marketing of advanced medical products based on medicinal excretia of fly larvae Lucilla sericata, as the best Valor project. Lenis has gained the possibility of additional networking and search for partners on their projects and the possibility of additional financial support for venture capital.
